Well, I've been trying to find a fahaka with no luck for over a year now. If everything goes according to plan, I will have one tomorrow! :nilly: The best part, is that it is coming with its own 125g tank. :headbang2 That's good news for my other fish. Sorry, I know this thread is worthless without pics. I will get pics as soon as I can. I am super excited about this so I just had to tell somebody. Wish me luck that everything works out with the sale/ transportation.

So are you getting the original tank the Fahaka was in to put him back into??? if so, just make sure the filter media was kept submerged in its original tank water so you don't have to wait too long to cycle your tank again... coz it would be a mad shame to lose a new puffer due to an un-cycled tank, although i'm sure you already know that...

Yeah, I'll be taking the tank that it is currently in and keeping as much water as possible. Good thought on the filter media though. When I get it to my place, I am going to fill it up as much as possible with water from my 125g and 55g CA cichlid tanks. I have an fx5 and a HOB filter on my 125, so I'll move the HOB filter to the new tank as well.

How big is he? How far is he traveling? I've got a fellow on my forum desperately looking for one. i think they're out of season now at the LFS. I assume this is from a private owner?

Ok, I got him home and everything is starting to settle down. The fish is about 8 or 9 inches long and a little on the thin side. As you can tell from the pics, his teeth are a little long. Do you think snails and other crunchies will be enough to file them down? The previous owner was feeding him frozen krill, and smashed freshwater clams. He said he was feeding snails here and there too, but it looks like maybe not enough of them to keep the teeth down. I will also be adding some more filtration to the setup asap as well. Just had a fluval 405 on it. Anyway, I finally got my fahaka. :D

Crunchy foods will keep teeth well groomed but no amount of crunchy foods will trim down a puffer's teeth. Only dentistry can help him now.
I trimmed this big guy's teeth:

I suggest getting MS222 (Finquel) to tranq him with.

Thanks, pufferpunk. Do you have a link with instructions for the tranq/trimming process as well as a good place to buy MS222? I guess i better join the puffer forum now that I finally have a fahaka!

Puffers are super smart dude, i'm wondering if that guy hand any hard surfaces in his tank. Usually you will catch a fahaka trimming his own teeth on a rock or other hard surfaces. I highly doubt that guy fed his fish clams and snails because his teeth are huge. I would say try all that stuff first before you decide to tranq the poor guy. Worst comes to worst after you've tried all other methods do it pufferpunks way.

Yeah, I'm not sure if the guy I got him from had even done a water change in the last few months...He is eating fine, so I'll get him plenty of snails and shell on shrimp. I'd rather not trim his teeth if I don't have to.
