what are the best fish to breed to turn a profit that you dont see every day but arent a headache to breed and that have a stable price? and i would rather have bigger fish but not too big say no bigger then a full grown oscar. i have a lot of tanks and a lot of space.i would like to breed oscars but you see those everywhere thanks for suggestions.

if you want to make a profit you should take a look at festae they are awsome and can make you a bit of money but they are not easy to breed... they tend to kill each other

I have thought about breading before just to help defray some of the cost of my hobby. I basicly came to the conclusion that to be profiatebl, for most of the common fish found at a LFS, it would need to be done on a scale that would become just work not fun. Also it is much more feasbel if you live in a place that stays warm enough all year that you do not need to spend any money on heating and a system that is big enough to partially self regulate to cut down on power consumption from pumps and filters is helpful.

Most stores have the "bread and butter" fish that they always carry in stock because they sell. These can be livebearers like swordtails, platies or guppys. Other fish they may carry as staples could be angelfish, convicts, jack dempseys and oscars. The problem is these common sellers are also not high dollar fish. You wont get much for them, but they will probably be much easier to unload locally, whereas others might require shipping out to different markets.

Anything that looks cute and colorful by the time it reaches 2" is a good bet. Carpintis are the first to come to mind. You'd basically be catering to the impulsive hobbyist who kills what he gets and keeps coming back for more.

anything common isn't worth your while. lfs have suppliers that breed fish on a massive scale and sell the fish to the store cheap. so if ur willing to breed jd's, oscars, or any other common fish, ull have to out compete the breeders, meaning ur supply will have to be big and sell to the lfs realy cheap. best bet is to do something that sells very will but there isn't a big supply of them. try clownfish, some very rare plecos, or rays. theres almost no money in guppies and such

If you really want to make some good money, get yourself some real top notch fish to start with say one male and 2-3 female. Moba=money. You may have to downstroke a bit of $ to get the initial breeding stock but you will make that back in very short order when you sell the fish.

Then when they begin to produce you will have the start of a long term money making fish op.

You could try blue gene jd's and sell the electric blue fry.
