Could I keep a senegal bichir with my clown loaches? They are around 2-3 inches. I was thinking about getting a bichir and growing it out in my 29 and then put it in the 75, but I'd rather not have my loaches become food. Does anyone have this combination? I had a little senegal bichir before I got the clowns, but it committed suicide by jumping into the overflow. That's why I would like to get one at a larger size, so it won't be able to do that.

yeah sure, why not. just toss him in there. Both will be fine!

Yup just make sure there isn't more than an inch or two difference in size.

Even full grown they are compatible as long as not crowded.

Inch or two difference is going to be a problem, since I'm assuming the bichirs growth will be considerably speedier than the clowns.

That should be fine, I once house 45 loaches with some 15" Endlis and Ended up with a few of the endlis eating some 7-8" Loaches. OUCH!

If a 15" bichir ate an 8" CL, why wouldn't a 6" bichir be able to eat a 3" CL?

The basic rules apply. I keep loaches with Polypterus. The rule is that any fish that can fit another fish in it's mouth is a risk. I don't keep loaches with anything that can swallow them.
