the Office living in the now...
When I came down stairs, my mala was not in his tank and I had a bad feeling about this. Walked over and there he was just laying there... Prob had him since he was 4-5". The lid had a 1/2" opening... Guess when they fly like torpedo's they can squeeze through smaller spaces.

did you try putting him back in the water?

They can stay out for a while

My Florida gar escaped 3 times, one time found him almost bone dry, but they air breathers so can b out of water for long time. But he looked dead, dry n stiff. Still put back in tank. He pretty much floated around for 3 days, a slight twitch here and there. On fourth day, was going to put out of misery and freeze him, and all the sudden he sprung bak to life!!! Damaged, but well alive. Live another 8yrs after that.
Hope u got to him fast enough, if any sign of life, giv him some time in water, may make a come back

OMG, after reading this... I think I froze him alive....

After I found him he was not breathing... seemed all dry... So I put him in a zip lock, then freezer then went to work... *****.... If some can live out of water for 3 days, I just killed my wolf....:flamed::wall::duh:

Sorry to hear that bomber, I've lost a handfull of fish to small openings that seemed to small for even the fish to fit through. Now many of my tanks have water jugs on top of the lid's and smaller pieces of glass or acrylic that cover the holes.

Jumpers suck....
