Hey guys, new to the site and just had a few quick Q's about the Wolf Fish feeding patterns and what you guys suggest. Hes about 8-9" right now and will ONLY eat tuffy feeders. Ive tried feeding him non-live food like shrimp, krill etc etc and he wont touch it. Any ideas on how to fix that, or will he always just eat live food? Also, how often do you guys feed them, Ive been giving him 2-3 tuffies in the am, then the same in the pm, witih not feeding for a day here and there. Thanks for any advice!

yeh mine have never ate non-live foods they just stare at the trout pellets when i feed my piranhas. and i feed them like 2-3 feeders a day

Ok cool thanks. Ive even tried tricking him into thinking the krill was live by putting it into the tank with a net like I do the feeders, but he caught on and it just sat right in front of his face lol.

Howdy, and welcome to MFK :welcome:

Then he's not hungry enough, it's that simple.

Just starve him, and he'll eat market shrimp and everything else. How long, you may wonder, can you starve a healthy wolf? Mine was on a self-imposed hunger strike for 3 months following a move into another tank. I offered him shrimp once per week, but he refused, until one day, then he ate it again.

Thanks for the welcome! And holy hell thats a long time!! I know Ive "starved" him, but its been 2-3 days max, and I felt bad doing that even . Ill have to give it a try though, thanks for all the advice so far guys.

I have to add that you should not starve him if he has any tankmates ... otherwise, these become food ...

Haha yeah, hes in the tank by himself. He's proven not to do well with mates even when fed twice a day!

LOL, kinda funny when I think back to my wolf. I agree with Harleyk although i could never let my fish go that long.....
I got frustrated with mine and basically got a stick put some fish on it and aggravated him to the point where I think he struck it out of anger!!.. Maybe i ewas lucky because after that he would nail anything that hit the water live or dead... Mine was a pretty aggressive fish and seemed pretty p*ssed off at the world in general... (Maybe because he was stuck in a glass box).. He would even it the side of the tank when peopel would walk buy it and flare his gills ad stuff. RIP "wolfy" :( ( Heater fried him )
