we all know that aggression can be an enjoyable trait in fish.

for this reason many of us keep large cichlids.

my question is, are wolves glass banger/finger chasers?

it seems like wolves are more predatory than anything.

i've never kept a wolf,
but i'm still researching (it's been 2 years) to get the right wolf for me.

P.S. 125G is my limit so Aimaras, the king of aggressive wolves are out of the question for the time being.
I'm particularly interested in Hoplias Curupiras as I believe they are ideal for me, but not sure of their general stereotypical personalities..

Sharing information is always appreciated

I would say they are not head bangers. Some are but the majority aren't. These would normally be aimara and very rarely curupira. These are normally in small aquaria where you would be encroaching on there territory. I have never seen a Mala do this. Nether of my my aimara are head bangers. They both will 100% bite you if you stick your hand in though.

I used to have a female Jaguar Cichlid that would bite my arm when I put it in the tank. Saying that I have a 1.5" yellowtail Damselfish in my marine setup that attacks me when i stick my arm in. Both my Channa Barca and Auratimaculata flare it me and attack the algae magnets.

curupira is a great fish and to be honest probably the best of the lot. given some space it is relatively active. It is also durinal so will not be hiding all day when the lights are on. fairly interactive, will beg for food. There is also the chance that you can keep them with other large fish. A couple of active brycon will add to the tank.

I have a 5" Erythrinus in a 20H. He always comes up to the glass and watches me and when I touch the glass he follows my finger. When I touch the top of the tank he starts biting at the glass and jumping at the lid.

If I go into his tank, he will repeatedly try to bite me. Whenever I feed him he always goes for my hand as well.

That's the reason why I think I want a wolf.
For this cool ugly looking fish that's all mean.

But it seems like it's more of the luck of the draw for a good personality

I am heavily considering getting a 180G, but it would depend on the reliability and size of the next place I live in.. I know it will be a high-rise.

Oliver from Below Water offered me a glass banging curupira, but I didn't take the chance as I think I should wait for the move.

Now that you mention it though, I think it was from being cramped in a small tiny tank.

Just don't want to pay for an expensive fish and be disappointed with it.

It has to be really aggressive or I will be disappointed..

My Mala will flare it's gills when I poke the glass, attack the siphon during water changes but won't head bang the glass. He used to absolutley blast the lid of the tank when I first bought him but I'm pretty sure he got tired of the headaches

Well what I heard from a friend that...
there was this guy who is looking for aimara...
and finally he see it as claim from someone it is...
But since the marking on the cheek is not so easily spotted as it is dark..
the buyer said he dun want it as it is not...but when he reach near the tank abit... the wolf fish is like trying to bang itself to break the tank to bite him...suddenly he said I want the fish...haha

BTW I bought the same batch and it is aimara...

Bro I know what you looking for... it like...
this quote was given by a friend

"Seriously, I felt "unsave" in a fish room for the first time after I have observed the reaction of the larger fish during the photo shoot. The feeling is like visiting a friend for the first time and you saw that he has a huge dog roaming in the his garden."

:ROFL::ROFL:
I still feel something like that when I do water change...
