where my cichla are
i'm going to pick up a couple fish tonight, one of which is a wolf fish (9 inches)i've read some things that say they are very aggressive, the guy that has him says he's docile.

i have tanks big enough, but i'm more concerned about the company they can keep successfully.

one of the tanks has an 18" cichla Temensis and a 2'+ silver arowana, and a 11"(ish) oscar in it.. and is 6 ft long 110 gallons.

the other tank has 6 cichla, all in the 9 - 10" range, a 9" oscar, an 8" red bay snook and a TSN. this tank is 4 ft long, 150 gallon tank.

and yes, the 110 is temporary.. i've been home on disability for 2 months and haven't been able to work on getting my 240 up and running. FYI so i don't get flamed.. i really don't need it.

i also have a 29 and a 55 gallon tank that i can set up temporarily to house him.

what kind of advice can you offer?

Wolf fish are "generally" ok with larger fish as long as they do not pick at him.. however he could snap at any time. With the larger Arowana and Temensis I could see them trying to make a snack of the wolf, at 9" he might or might not be able to defend himself well. If it were me I'd add him to the 150g and watch it closely.

unfortunately that option has been taken away.. i have spawning happening in the 150.. or at least they are going through the motions. and i don't want to risk not getting eggs..

my options at the moment are in with the BIG fish or setting up the 29 for short term storage.. lol.

a wolf fish will not eat eggs.
but the fighting between the cichla and the wolf might cause big problems...
read what i posted in MCL. :D

thanks channa.. and mudfrog. every bit of help is MUCH appreciated. i have to do a water change on the 150 tomorrow.. it's way over due. so i'll pull 15 gallons and one of the foamies from there and put the wolf fish in the 29 temporarily.

i don't want to upset the opportunity to get baby cichla if i can help it. and when i get the 240 up and running he'll have lots of places to hide and he can hang out with the big fish.

only if they lay eggs.. if all they are going to do is dance and flare i'll leave em alone and give them the 110 when i get the 240 set up.

aborted the pick up of the wolf fish tonight, gonna go get it tomorrow.
