Whats goin' on everybody, so my question is simple but I cant seem to find a thread detailing it on here. I want to possibly get a wolf fish, but I'm not sure what species to look for. It will need to be a smaller species, I'm not sure which size tank I'll be able to dedicate to him quite yet, but lets say no bigger than 90 gallons. I know red wolf fish would be fine in that for life but are there any other species out there I could keep comfortably in a smaller tank? Thanks!!

Look at erythrinus erythrinus sp that might be what you're looking for.

Those are cool wolf fish! max of 20-25 cm would be perfect haha. Its a toss up for this tank...I either want a wolf or a sanchezi piranha at this point...man decisions suck haha

The one I had would hide until I through a worm into the tank. He darted out grabbed it and went back into his log. I scratched my wolf fish itch. He was pretty boring and I tired of devoting tank space to a finned sausage.

haha finned sausage! I lost it right there! that's true I have heard that about them before...well I guess I have some thinking to do on that then lol

Try different variants, they aren't really looked into like that(described). Most of the different "variants" are different species. Seems that they vary in sizes but stay under a foot. I'm not really sure though, only first hand experience I have is with the erythrinus erythrinus. Temperaments can vary to from the different regions, and specimen. But I feel in the 90 you could keep it and tankmates. Smaller you go less tankmates or possibility of tankmates. Erythrinus sp. don't seem really aggressive. The one I had wasn't. He was passive and swam all day. I liked him. I'd keep another.

Ya see I love the way the bigger species look, but I can't justify dedicating a huge tank to one haha. The smaller species are really cool but don't always have that look I like about some of the other wolves haha. I'll do some research and make a decision here haha, thanks for the advice!

Golds don't get huge and are really active......

Nobody wants a sausage with fins.
