well, so much for me keeping wolf fish. I got one a couple weeks ago, shipped to me and at this point i think hes gonna die. he is in a 75 by himself, water paramaters all perfect, floating plants and lots of places to hide. but he just wont eat or stop crashing into the top of the tank, i even lowered the water level, still he can jump right up to the top and crash and he wont stop. at this point he has almost no skin left on his head from crashing and scraping back and forth all day and night long. as i said i cant get him to eat anything, now hes just laying on top of plants like hes not gonna make it, looks pretty bad. From reading posts on here i thought these guys were supposed to be bad ass monsters, so far a betta is more of a monster than this guy. i read posts for months and researched them, its a red wolf by the way, and i really dont think im doing anything wrong, has this happened to anyone else, im very very upset by this, but i dont think hes gonna make it. anyway, just to make it clear, hes in a 75 gallon by himself, water paramaters great, lots of floating plants and wood to hide in, tried to feed rosy reds, hes afraid of them?, shrimp, blackworms, bloodworms, pellets, i just dont know what else to do.

Mine took 2-3 weeks before he ate. If he is trying to continually jump there is something he is not happy with. I would try a water change. Is this a new setup or one that has been running for a while. How long was the tank without fish before you added him?

its not a new tank, its been up and full of fish for like a year now, i just recently got rid of those fish and got a wolf for the tank and i just did a water change yesterday

do you think i should move him, i have a 40 breeder in another room with like, no foot trafiic, i could set it up with a very low water level and no lighting other than room lights until he adjusts to captivity, assuming he survives, or should i just keep him where he is, im sitting here starring at the tank, not sure what to do

The reason I ask if it has been empty is if there is no bioload in the tank then the bacteria will die off and require cycling again. I would move it into the smaller tank but wouldn't lower the water level. Add a couple of small live fish in there that he will pick off when settled.

Hope it works out for you.

maybe try to tape some foam to the bottom of your tank cover so it'll hit those soft foam instead of glass.
