Hi guys I'm having trouble getting my wolf fish to eat. Ever since I put him in the tank with my arowanas and cichla he's been very timid and reluctant to eat. He only eats if I put more prawn than the arowanas can eat and leave him to eat the leftovers when it's dark.
Any ideas? Or do I just need to sell him to someone who can keep him alone again?

let him find his own way in that crowd.

he is already eating. when he adapts he will find his own method.

If he is eating it is not that big of a prob. He is the new guy in the area and like Miguel said, he will need to figure out where he stands on the feeding order. Mine went from shy and good with tank mates, to trying to brutally kill everything in a short period of time.

:)hi there, i've never owned a wolf fish ,but have dealt with fussy fish or bullied fish and what i do is get someone down the other end of the tank with the bullies and feed them first or a liitle bit before your shy guy and then, you go down the other end whilst the others are otherwise oblivious to your plan, then as he gets fatter and more healthier gradually move the feeding areas closer and closer every other day so that in end he ends up eating with them and he doesn.t starve in the mean time

He doesn't even move at feeding time at the moment so it's not easy. Also I can't keep bloating my arowanas to get food to the wolf. The aros are seriously greedy.
I need to get this wolf some more confidence or I'm worried he'll waste away through lack of food.
I've noticed he's more active during water changes when the water level is lower. Maybe he needs more over head cover. At the moment the tank has java ferns and small branches.
What do you think?

interesting, i would have to say with my small amount of experience miguel seems to have hit the nail on the head, idk about plant cover, i dont think it would hurt

I say do not worry ( in the assumption it is healthy).

2 weeks ago I got a large Hoplias, that was in a large tank of monsters and was swimming and eating on a par with the others.

When it got in my tank, with my monsters, it hid for a whole week. A couple of days ago I see him, on top, waiting for the floating pellets ( the current drives them in his direction ) and gobbling them down.

He still cedes palce when one of the big aro's or cichla go after those pellets, but increasingly with less respect for the others.

In a couple of weeks, I am sure, he will be up in the front with the other monsters and his behaviour will be exactly what the previous owner described.....

mine goes through different stages where he is aggressively hungry sometimes, then others he just turns his nose up at food. I feed shrimp, worms and other stuff as well.

I've never kept any Hoplias before and am no expert with them. But I would say give him a bit more time to establish himself in the pecking order and see if anything changes. If not I would move him.
