are these an expensive fish to buy?

it is marked up as a "BLACK WOLF"

also what are they like with tank mates?

they can do okay, but many many many times they are very bad tankmates for other fish. i don't have any experience with non true wolfs like high red fins (small ones), but true hoplias like mala's etc, are a bad idea.

thank you mate, that said he can stay where he is :)

Edited the #1 post the same time as you put your reply, they have it marked up as a "BLACK WOLF"

black wolf's go for anywhere from 300-800 for 10-14"ers, depends where you get them from. there getting more common in the hobby nowadays. HKN keeps 2 together and with other fish, but it's been like a week, so we will see.

This little guy is only [at a guess!] 6inches
and £25..... so thats what? something like just under 50 USD, good price?

pitty I cant go get him.

$50 for a black wolf is a steal!

I remember my brother had a 6" wolf fish. It would just sit on the bottom of the tank all day and if we put anything in the tank, no matter the size, it would devour it whole. It ate a 4" red devil, 5" Oscar, and many other things, it never left anything. It even bit my mom pretty badly when she put her hand in the tank to clean once. Def the meanest and most aggresive fish we've ever owned, just a very boring fish though.

my red wolf used to be pretty boring when he lived with my bichirs. he behaved like a common mala for the most part. last month i put him in with my three gold wolves and his activity level had definitely picked up. two of the gold wolves are significantly bigger than the red wolf but he still tries to take food out of their mouths when they are feeding.

ive seen them at my lfs, labeled as just wolf fish, kinda on the tan, spotted side, how big can they grow? anyone know??
