Need ID on this wolf fish..

Description of the unknown wolf fish :

Head – is short and blunt with blue sheen on the operculum. Dark markings may sometimes be seen on the operculum behind the eye. Mouth is big and wide with the lower jaw more protruded than the upper jaw.

Body – torpedo shape but rather thick. The peduncle is thick even thicker than the head. A large black spot is sometimes seen on the upper peduncle. Color varies from light brown to grey to olive. Horizontal dark blotches may sometimes be seen.

Fins – Dorsal Fin is quite tall and is the same color as the body. The rays near the body are yellow in color which fades near the margin. The margin is white to light blue. Pectoral Fins are clear with white to light blue rays. Ventral Fins are clear with white to light blue rays. Anal Fin is yellow to orange in color. Caudal Fin is wide and round. It has yellow speckles in the rays near the body and the margin is white to light blue. There is no adipose fin.

I think its a red wolf, but don't quote me on that. How active is it?

We put him side to side with ery ery and gold wolf at same size it's really different. It's not that active if you would compare it to gold wolf. My guess is Ery Sp. Peru but not sure. Hope jelly would shed some light or some expert with wolf fish.

I think you are correct. Its no Hoplias. And Ery Ery would be more red. This is likely sp. Peru

+1 Sp. Peru

It might might be a ery ery peru but I have doubts it might be a rare subspecies that haven't been fully introduced to the hobby.

Might might be the exculsive: erythrinus sp. tahuayo river

GOOGLE FOR PIC! looks identical!

Anyone know what size orange/red wolfs get to ?

I think it is a new one, or new to the hobby at least. I am picking one up on the weekend along with another unidentified Erythrinus sp. At first glance I was thinking immature sp. Peru but the more I look the more I think not.

We shall see :)
