maybe not. Many species of wolf fish are quite lazy and only move to eat and dont bother fish too big to eat. Its a better combo than some I have read. If it is super aggressive and active though, it could definitely equal a dead gar.

Mala's are the best "Community" Wolves there are IMHO. Although all fish do have a personality and some might be grumpier than others. I found that having nothing but an open bare tank also helps as the wolf has nothing to "claim" as it's own.
Sorry about Thebes post, I was on break at work and didn't have much time. He seems to be really lazy, he has Eaten most of his tank mates but didn't bother the large pleco. He DID have a 16 inch clown knife, but t he clown had him in the corner. Now it's gone.
It is a common wolf, mal something. He has a jack demp in there that he thinks is a meal, but is smart enough to Aboid. The tank has black sand and an air bubble wall, nothing else tho. Exelent filtration.
Also is a Florida gar, I'll post a pic to be 100% sure. He has to either live with my wolf jn a 55gal or in a tote with a filter heater tell I sell my red bellys.
Lastly, what other fish can live with this combo? I seen some have a ray or a arowana but I know my tank is to small.

Seems to be working well. Itsstill in my 55 but the guy tossed in a 8inch pleco and whet would have been a 8 inch pictus catfish, but it did t make it. The Gar looks like he may be shedding a little, same with the pleco. Has a good slimy slime coat. He seems to swim a little, hover, swim, sink, chill at the bottom. Wolf could care less. The Gar lays on him and he does t really care. Once and a while the Gar will gulp some air.
One last thing. He has been eating 10iah goldfish a week and that has to stop. Should I let him eat thatflr a bit of break him of it like my wolf and get him on talapia for example?

I just got up to check and the Gar was belly up. Sigh. Now I'm left with that damn pleco and no reason to upgrade.
