Howdy,

I have noticed that some members keep more than one wolf fish (Hoplias malabaricus) per tank. Some have (had) a breeding pair (e.g. Siciliano: We need an update! , kane1: :( :rip ). But that is hard to predict when you purchase juveniles... will two males fight? Better keep a trio?

My question is: What's a good number of adult wolves - let's say in my 220 gal - upgrade likely :naughty:? How close do they have to be in size in order to live together and not cannibalize?

Thanks,
HarleyK

To be honest its difficult to say how many you can keep together, a 220 is a good size tank as long as it is long and wide, it could probably house 4 to 5 large wolves. If you keep the wolves from very young there is a chance that you could keep more than one, its just trial and error sorry, i dont think any one on this site can be to sure of the outcome, keep them well fed and hope for the best. And size i would get them as close as possible i think if there is one a bit bigger it will bully and kill the smaller ones.

It would be an impressive sight 4/5large wolves together, my 2 14"+ in a 110 uk gal used to look awsome :( But remember they were a breeding pair!

Nice gold wolves, Jack! I've always wanted some Hoplerythrinus!

I have a hard time getting my red wolves (Erythrinus) from peacefully co-existing. Perhaps I should move up to gold wolves (Hoplerythrinus), since common wolves (Hoplias malabaricus) are illegal in CA.

wow.. I've tried like sized Hoplias together, one almost killed the other..I have tried rainbow wolves together, like sized also, one killed the other:: now I have 3 wolves, which means i have 3 tanks just for my wolf pack!

damn nice golds:thumbsup: it seems like you have much better chance of keeping more golds then malas i just think malas are more aggresive and terratorial, golds are alot more active mid to top swimmers where malas tend to mid to bottom however my 2 malas did swim alot top and bottom.
