wondering

i have a turbo seas pump hmmm 1200 gallons a hr with a ocean clear canister flilter its the 318 with all the sponges ..ok ..problem is this tank has been up and running for mmm close to a yr i was told to clean the filter once a month well i listen ....towards the end of the month it gets 4/5 clear then i clean the filter and back to the start again .....can i go longer w/o clean so the tank satys clear ...when i got my tank they didnt tell me a whole lot ...they didnt tell me it would cycle and welll beginner ....i have dovii in theh tank and it just seem to never really clear and i would love tosee it llooking like glass at some point ...any help would b awsome
