Don't know if theres info on this in a sticky or another thread but i've been haveing trouble with keeping plants down my fish in this tank are small and haven't been doing it i don't think but whats a good way to keep them down can you use lead strips ? they came with some but i take them off cause i'm not sure if they will harm fish will they ? i know there bad for clams and inverts but what about catfish and growout cichlids ? other then that i may just have to add more gravel to make a deeper layer i think that will help but if not any thing else i can do ?

'wont stay down' ive had that problem before:naughty:
I dont like using the lead. just doesnt seem safe
ive used small river stone and even put the base of the smaller plants through the hole of ceramic biomedia.

yeah i'm just not sure if lead will do anything to my fish the LFS allways have lead strips in there planted tanks and they have fish some times in there but not all ways I have seen snails in these tanks but also alot of dead ones so just not sure i think i may just rubber band them to a rock or somethin

Those "lead" strips aren't really lead. They are usually a mixture of magnesium/zinc, some are pewter. Completely safe for your fish.

I have used estuary's idea before, just with milk caps instead of lids (a little smaller), never really had a problem with it.

never thought of that

good to hear that those strips are safe may just use them

For my plants that haven't rooted yet, I put them in small (like maybe 2" diameter) pots with more sand than gravel, and I sink them about 2 or 3 inches. It secures them better and protects them from the catfish and polys. I might silicone some gravel on them, but I also like how they look now. I've also ziptied, wireloomed, and spiraled hose around them with a lava rock or 2
