I have a orange mbuna that wont stop having babies. Anyways I'm ready to start feeding the babies to my South Americans, you think this is a good idea? I know people use convicts as food... There's definitely not as many, but I'm sick of all these little orange fish!

I keep a small group of syno petricola in my tank for fry control. I've had lots of fish holding but haven't seen any babies.

Thanks guys I guess I'll try to sell the ones I have I might be able to get like 50cents for all of then but I thats a couple bucks I don't have :] But on the same trip I need to pick up some synos. About how many should I get and how big are they going to get? I have a 75g

I have 4 in a 55 gallon, they like to be in groups. The Petricola only get about 3.5", other species get larger.

Cool, thanks for the info! Hopefully they can put an end to all these freakin' babies! I have a lot of other fish but it seems that shes the only one who's ever holding, what a hussy :]

another interesting choice for fry controll is a tire track or peacock eel. I was having all kinds of hybrid fry in my 125 mixed rift lake setup and I put in a tire track eel and havent seen any in a long time.

Ooooo, I like the eel idea, I've always wanted one. Will it try to take out any of my medium sized cichlids or are they relatively small?

IMO, there's nothing wrong with using them as feeders. There's no difference between convicts as feeders and Africans as feeders.

They'd definitely be a lot better than LFS feeder fish.

imo a eel is a bad idea.. not only do most of them come from 7.0 range PH's ( there are exceptions elpisifer, and the rarer plagosi (sp?) are actually from lake Tang. ) Tire Tracks can get over 30"+ and outgrow most tanks. Peacocks will stay smaller in about the 12" range. Both will potentially eat fish. I have 2 peacocks in with my guppies and they help control the fry but do not erradicate them. Also depending on the aggression levels of your Africans, If the eel can't hide. They can and will rip it to peices. Syno's would be a "hardier" solutions imo, But if your interested in the eels deffiantely do alot of homework first. I adore my eels, not gonna lie. But they are the neediest of my fish in reguards to care in general.
