I got this branch from my parent's house, it's been sat behind there shed now for well over two year's, it was already self stripped of the bark, do you think it will go ok in my fish tank? If yes should i wash in hot water, scrub and repeat a few time's, then leave in a bath of water to soak?
It's from an oak tree if that help's?

So you found a piece, cool!
It looks good and should work fine.
Before boiling, scrubing, soaking it, make sure to remove any loose pieces from it.

yes, i was thinking of sanding down the edge's with paper, scrubbing it, sanding across the whole peace, the boil it, soak it in hot water in the bath, scrub and repeat, how long after should i soak it?

u don't need to sand it, it'll look more natural that way. and i don't know how u gonna boil that since it's so long...but u can just soak it for a long time, like a month or so. they all sink eventually, but soak is important cuz it gets rid of the color and any parasite or wut not the wood may carry.

yes the only thing i was thinking was scrubbing it with boiling hot water a few time's, then, fill the bath with boiling water and leaving it in there for a while, thank's for the help guy's

The piece of driftwood I currently have in my tank.....
I just took a wire brush to get any loose stuff off.
I sprayed it with a water hose to get any bugs/grass off.
I then got the bathtub as hot as I could get it (only hot water) and put some bricks/rocks on top of it so it would stay completely submerged.
I let it soak for about an hour...(note: this is not nearly as long as you are supposed to, but I haven't had any problems :)

Looks good. I like oak because it's a harder wood and doesn't seem to rot/soften like other kinds. We've got a huge stock tank for the sheep and whenever I find a good piece I plop it in the stock tank to soak for a few wks to sink it. There's always wood in various stages of "sinkage" in there :-) After it sinks all I do is hose it off with a jet nozzle and stick it in a tank.

BRrilliant, thank's guy's.....ive given it a few good scrub's in boiling hot water, my hand's are red raw, hehe.....now iam leaving it to soak again in boiling hot water, first couple of scrub's water was filthy, now it's vertually clear, so hopefully it should work...i shall as i planned having the big fat peice standing under a huge peice of slate to weigh it down and have it heading up toward's the suface

keep it soaked in water for a while so the color would give out...otherwise, u'll find ur tank water tinted w/tea color...but who knows, u mite find it more natural looking lol
