Planning my wood bottom aquarium build. Trying to figure out the best way to do a standpipe/return to the sump. What type of fitting do I use to go thru the wood. I am gonna do a 2x4 frame with 3/4 plywood then silicone a sheet of bathtub surround for the bottom this will be my water proofing I need to pass the pipe thru 3/4 " of wood and the surround. Don't think a union is big enough any helps appreciated thank you

Look for a bulkhead fitting. Aquarium style ones are often lower profile (smaller footprint) and can be bought online for less than 5 dollars. Try amazon or maybe even your lfs.

Ive also used ABS bulkheads. They can be obtained locally where I live at the hardware or farm supply store. The only downfall I they are much heavier duty and have a much larger foot print.

Then just buy a suitable sized hole saw for the outer diameter of thr bulkhead.

silicone doesnt last to long on a bathtub so dont use that. Go get some PL polyurethane roof and flashing sealant. I use it, and its very popular on koiphen
