I just bought a 180 gal. tank with a steel stand. The stand is in good shape but i want it to look nice in my living room. I'm trying to think of a goo way to cover it with wood trim and what not.

Any good ideas or links? It's all box tube with no middle support, 1/4" steel.

I know u can make it magnetic wood cabinetry because the guy who makes stands from steelstandaquariums.com does it that way...You should check out how he does it..

I had a buddy weld together a steel frame for a 16 foot long gate. He then set an 8 x 8 steel post in cement for the gate to swing on. He used self tapping screws to attach cedar boards to the gate frame so the gate would match the rest of his cedar fence.

A few months later, on a warm spring morning after a night of rain, he was awoken by what sounded like someone shooting a .22 next to his house. While laying in bed he heard one of the .22 bullets ricochet off the side of his house. He quickly grabbed his shot gun and carefully went outside to confront the vandal. He didn't find any trace of the offending party but after several minutes, when he turned around to go back inside, he heard the crack of one of the self tapping screws giving way and shearing as the wet wood expanded and the steel frame didn't! He must have grabbed the garden hose shortly after that as I didn't see any sign of the brown stain on his front sidewalk. :)

I like the magnet idea!

You need earth magnets and alot of them are sold on ebay

Search for "RARE EARTH MAGNETS"

I used them in some custom cabinets I made in highschool. They turn out very nice. But don't just take a plywood panel and glue magnets on it and slap it on. Make a nice top and bottom trim rail, and set the panels in between. That way it stays in place and still be removable.

just pre drill some holes through the stand and screw from the back just make sure the screws dont come though the front. ill be doing my steel stand next week illl; post it up and show you how i did mine its pretty easy.
