what kind of wood do royal plecos like? I told that they like wood that still had some bark on it is true and if so wont it faul up the water?

malaysian driftwood it's softer than mopani wood and I've noticed my royals eat these pretty quick. both woods don't foul the water butight release some tannins if you don't soak them long enough.

Mine seems to like the driftwood I find locally, most of the trees around here are maple so I would guess so is the wood

i just bought a royal myself hes doing great though he is a real pooper. i have had him for a week, hes been doing some mager munching on my drift wood which are african drift wood and a local piece from our lake which i boiled the heck out of. however this weekend i finally saw him sharing zucc with my albino gibby. hes getting fat and eating alot. so make sure you give him veggies too. a well rounded diet will make him grow to his full potential. my new royal is only 3" i can't wait to see how he turns out in the years to com :O)
