I am going to make a net cover for my outdoor pond with 1"x2" wood frame. I want to know what kind of paint or applicator i can use for the wood so it can survive longer without deteriorating from the rain, sun, cold, etc..
What can i use to prolong the wood and also fish safe; I don't want harmful chemicals to go into the pond when it rains.
Thanks for any input.

Depending on the size of the pond I would consider 1/2 or 3/4 inch conduit.

use 1' pvc pipe it works well and you can make it flex up to keep the net out of the pond and you can take it apart

thats what i wud do!

The pvc idea sounds good to me, but the best stuff I've used for wood protection is Minwax "Helmsman" Spar Urethane. Awesome stuff! Ive used it on tank stands, patio furniture, all kinds of stuff. It will look like new for years.

Thanks for all the info guys.
I bought the wood before I post, if i didn't buy the wood already, i would go for the cedar.
So my best bet will be to use the minwax.
I just want to confirm, minwax will not harm the fishes when it rains, correct?
