wood shrimp?

they have 4 arms where their claws should be but they are fans and they are brown

Yeah, another trade name, "bamboo shrimp," will probably turn up more information -- Atyopsis moluccensis is what you most likely have.

they feed on microbes that they catch with their fans. i got one in a 10 gallon right now.

you MUST buy a plant for him to hang on, or he will either climb out of the tank or hop in the filter.

they are in a 55g planted tank with 2 schools of tetras and some dwarf cichlids
