I just let mine soak in the tank and sink on their own. You could put some rocks around them aswell to keep them down until they become waterlogged.
 
It depends on the shape but if it has a good base you could attache it to a piece of slate. Drill a hole in the slate (requires a special bit), then attach it to the wood with a screw.

Otherwise it will sink once it has absorbed enough water.
