I'm moving in with my girlfriend and figured if she's letting me bring along my tank it might as well fit in nicely with the rest of our furniture. So, I'm searching for a black wooden canopy that I can put on top of the tank to match its stand and make it blend in a bit more. Doesnt have to be too tall because i use an LED strip, canister filters, low profile equipment. But it has to be 48 x 18 inches. I'm seeing a few that are several hundred dollars but has anyone purchased them for under $200?

$200 for just the canopy?

I don’t even use the canopy for my 75 anymore. It was a big pain in the butt for maintenance.

Could be a fun diy project. Sheet of plywood+screws+liquid rubber+paint. That is youre inclinee to crafty ventures.
Not a bad idea actually. I could get behind this.

I mean I have a glass canopy on it now, but it doesn't look great compared to the nice wooden ones that make the whole tank look like a nice piece of furniture. It seems the wooden ones are pricey for some reason. Really annoying because my polyboard cabinet stand was $200...

I agree with Backfromthedead Backfromthedead , best to make one yourself, it'll be cheaper and you could make it fit better. Here is a link to a video showing how you could make one

Fit the timber on top of the current glass cover as an aesthetic cover/accent, or it'll swell/warp pretty much no matter what you do.
You may get away with a facade around the front & side(s?) rather than a full cover. It'll breath, so less likely to warp. That's what we've got on the verandah 100, but it's tall- a little shy of 6' to the rim.

Thats why i suggested a coating of some sort of heavy duty sealant. Liquid rubber, pond shield or even flex seal maybe.
