I have a 75g with one of those metal stands with the intricate designs on the side. My wet dry is loud and now that we have a puppy I would like to build a wooden cover with doors only for the front. I have no experience whatsoever with woodbuilding but I have a general idea of how to do this. I just need to how thick and what kind of wood should I use? And I wanted to make it black do I just use paint for that or some kind of stain? And does anyone know of what kind of adhesive that will work well for this kind of application?

If you're just going to paint it black, I would get a lower end type of plywood. Nicer stuff like oak usually looks best with stain, its harder to tell the difference when you just pant it black. No need for anything thicker than 1/2".

You could use glue, or you could drill holes in your metal stand (depending on how its made, and what its made out of) and attach the plywood with metal brackets. Either way would work, and I would get some corner trim to make it look nice.
