Ok my wrists have been hurting lately and quite irritating during work. I can't specifically think of the cause of hte pain, but I think it could be the constant, repetitive motions of my hand during work. I got off early today and requested that I see a doctor, but they said to wait til monday. Now, the time that I miss at work will reduce my paycheck which is a problem, do I get re-imbursed for that time off if my injury was caused by job duties? Can anyone help me on this? I try to ask the manager but he keeps telling me he's not sure (great manager huh?). I don't know what my options are.

Well, you should be able to claim your time off as sick time. I'd go to a Dr. if you feel that you have a case of cts or what ever for a diagnosis and possible treatment ,"sometimes it's worse than the cts,." After you get some sort of diagnosis I'd go to my companies human resources dept if I were you. Most likely you'd have to be reassigned to some other duties etc. at least for the time being if that's the case. If not you can take you short term disability and it will pay a portion of your salary.
hth and get well soon.

Call Larry H. Parker..... he can get you up to 2.5million.......

Not really sure i was off work from Nov. 29 2005 to March 13 2006.Took out short term disability. And it sucked pay a very small percentage.

workers comp things vary on a state to state basis...many states u get ripped off ..u should how ever see a doc and so u can get better ..it's hard to loose pay and pay bills but sometimes thats the way it works .....when my wife injured her neck ..it took 3 years to see anything .... also many companies let ppl go after being injured

Could be that repetitive motion from smoking so much....LOL

You won't get w/c reimbursement unless you are out 3 days or more. Then that would be 3/4 of your present salary. Sorry (I know all about this after surgery on both of my shoulders).
P.S. I'm a Pall Mall Man. Vote NO on prop 86.

Well, I just went through the cts surgeries a couple of months ago. Workmans Comp is tough here in NE. A representative from Work Comp had to come out to my place of employment (a hospital) and watch me work for 6 hours. She had to make sure that what I do would cause my cts. They did approve the surgery one day before my surgery was scheduled. I had my right wrist done first and then 2 weeks later went in and had my left wrist done.
Your first step is to go see your doctor, he will order up a nerve conduction study. You go to that and that will determine if it is cts or something else. From there they will tell you to go back to your regular physician and he will ask you if you have a preference of surgeon and you tell him. From there it is up to the surgeon to determine if surgery is for you or if therapy will do the trick. Let me know how this goes for you. It is a pain in the butt to work with Workmans comp but it is worth it.
They paid me my regular pay after the first 3 days I had to be off. Where do you work? You should be able to use some sick time or PTO time for leaving early or having to be off work for this.

You said "wrists" rather than "wrist." Do you use both hands in food prep? I'd think most use a knife in primarily one hand, unless the knife work is part of the act.

If you have doctors, or better yet physical therapists, as customers you might ask one for a business card and say you'd like to call and ask a personal question. Unless they push for the question don't make a big deal out of it at work. Sometimes even a massage therapist would have a good idea to resolve this kind of problem short of surgery.

It's likely your manager wouldn't know how to respond to your question or even if he/she should. The manager represents the restaurant NOT the help. Here in Texas there are special agencies for workman's comp. You could probably find a phone number in the book under government agencies.

In the meantime, you might consider one of those gyro things that you use to exercise and strengthen your wrists available from some sporting goods places. Sometimes just changing your routine will either lessen pain or alleviate it.

Most places try to replace workers that create or share problems at work. Keep your situation on the QT until you decide the best way to resolve the issue.
