Hi all

I should be moving to a new place in the next 6 months. I'm costing out two tanks, the biggest i can afford. I want either a 96Lx36Wx24"H, minimum. Or a 120"Lx36"Wx36"H.
I would like to hear from people with experience with deep tanks. I currently own a 60"Lx24"Wx30"H tank (tank depth 24"). I find need to use a small step lade to reach the bottom and I'm just over 6'.

Ta.

I have a 30" H tank and I have to use a step ladder to get to the bottom.

Small guy, with scuba gear, held upside down by his ankles works the best. ;) Thankfull my laborers have a sense of humor about their job. LOL

Jonathan...

I actually saw a guy cleaning one of Big Al's display tanks like that. Made me do a double take because I really wasn't expecting to see a guy in full dive gear just to clean a fish tank.

I get to swim with the fishies quite a bit. :) I used to maintain an 8000 gallon reef tank in a doctors office, always fun to play with the patients while I scrubbed the acrylic and pruned the SPS.

Just remember to take short quick breaks when cleaning inside tank walls (from the outside/not wearing scuba gear)... holding your head upside down too long can give you a massive headache or head rush?!! :barf: :wall: :SaiyanSmi :grinyes:

A 2-3 step stool, would come in handy as well. :)

LOL

That is crazy!!

I'm leaning towards a tank depth of 30". This combined with the lid would possibly make a depth of 36". I'll be using 1 150watt (5,200kelvin)metal halide, If I go with the 8 footer. Or 2 150watt metal halide if I go with the 10 footer (dream tank). Should give me the shimmering effect on the sand that I'm after. I'll be using 2 Eheim Pro3 2080's as filteration.
Primary stock will be an African tigerfish with the tank having an African theme.
Anyone know what a 120"Lx36"Wx30"H acrylic tank would weigh?

How large did your ATF get. You kept it in a 240, right ? I grew one to about 12". It was kept in a 60x24x30. It needed a BIGGER tank.

Dazza,

That's right, I had my Forskali ATF in a 240, but it was originally kept in a 900g. It was around 16-17' range, I'd say. It was an ABSOLUTE BEAST!!

Yes, I agree w/ you about "needing BIGGER Tanks"... (they really do!) Being 'openwaters" fish that they are... can burst at tremendously fast speed!! When I was housing in my 240, I could clearly see that an 8' long tank would not be able to house it comfortably. I would say a 10' long, minimum. They need some runway space for them, to do their 'Fast speed feeding sprints!![/u]' at feeding times!! :grinyes: Dazza, what species ATF did you keep, anyways? Details? Pics?

Thanks! :)
