Cycling in the tank has gone really good, all test are in line except ph is a little high (7.8). Temperature is my problem right now due to the lighting fixtures currently in use. Tank is 48" x 12" x 12" (30 gal.), wood stand with wood canopy; compact fluorescents mounted in canopy (2 -24" whites front, 2 - 24" blues back). I'm running the blues 10 hours and the whites only 4 hours a day due to the fact that they start increasing the water temperature rapidly. The light are approximately 3 1/2" above waterline and ventilation is a 2" x 48" gap between the tank and the canopy. I have thought about installing axal fans in this gap area but after serious thought, if it works and brings the temperture down I'm not sure I want to listen to the fans. The other option I am considering is changing to LED lighting; on the expensive end, are they worth it? Many plants in tank and need ful spectrum of light (RGB), any sugestions?
