I don't recall seeing this question posted yet but if it has direct me plz. I bought a 55 gallon tank mainly because there were two oscars and two rbpacu being kept in it. A bit irresponisble imo. The question being I have a few working wet/dry filters running on some other tanks. I have an empty 135 that i want to put them pacu in. The 135 is full and not cycled, so if i put a cycled wet/dry on a non cycled tank, will it work a far as cycling goes or at least help. Or will it just be an easy way to kill my good bacteria colony? thnx

if you put a cycled wet/dry onto a new tank, your new tank is now cycled.

Hi gedavidj
Welcome to MFK

I agree with the above responses

I can't 100% agree with the above...

a tank is "cycled" when there is enough bacteria in the system to oxidize all of the ammonia into nitrite and all of the nitrite into nitrate before it can build up to measurable concentrations...

So adding the mature wet/dry would instantly add both types of bacteria... and it is very possible it will add enough to be instantly "cycled"... but the quantity of bacteria in the mature wet/dry would depend on the stock of the tank it comes off of as well as a few other factors...

But regardless of the detail... adding the mature wet/dry would instantly give you one hell of a head start and you could closely monitor ammonia/nitrite and water change as needed if any ammonia/nitrite readings are detected...

worked for me!
