World record for longest free fall

Seeing this actually got me thinking cause as a kid I was always told if you jump off the Empire State Building you will die before you hit the ground. Well his jump is the Empire State multiple times over but yet he survived. Im curious if that statement is true or just myth.

^ I think when most people used to say you might die before you hit the ground is because a person is more likely to black out or something like that before they actually hit the ground...
 
Homer that makes sense. All the adrenaline would probably cause you to blackout.

The problem is if you start turning.. Then the blood will rush into your head and you'll black out. Felix Baumgartner almost did but he managed to stabilize his position.
 
He also was wearing a protective pressure suit that fighter pilots wear to help keep his blood circulating. He was way above his target height when he pulled his chute cause his display frosted over and he couldn't make out his elevation. I think the previous record was set in the 60s or 70s, but don't quote me on that

I seen that he did start spinning must have been scary when he did knowing that if he didn't stop he would die

Thanks Chub_by for verifying my information. When you think of the technological advancements between the 60s and now it is, in my opinion, more impressive the record was set when it was, although the new record is not to be ignored in its greatness as well...
