Last year (2009) in Japan a world record largemouth bass was caught. The fish actually tied the world record at 22 pound 4 ounces. The guy caught the fish fishing with a live bluegill on his first cast to this spot. As well I read that he caught an 18 pounder the year before in the same lake. There are photos up on the web under world record largemouth bass.
:D:popcorn::D

old news- heres a question for ya though, I believe this fish was caught on a private lake. Should it count as the record?

old news

Yeah I could not believe I had not heard about the fish until now. I have got a couple of largemouth bass internet sites, watch fishing shows, plus chat with a lot of anglers and did not hear about the news until now. Anyway its a helluva fish.

I think you have got some non accurate information the bass was caught on the largest lake in Japan and is not a private lake to my knowledge. There was a lot of controversy about it being a certified world record tying bass such as if the angler was fishing in a nonboating/fishing zone and is why this fish took a long time to certify.

If a record fish was caught in a farm pond I would say it would count as a record breaker, however, if it was caught in a pond filled with koi and goldfish no way.

2oz's? A records a record damnit =P

go to bass pro shop to see the world record large mouth bass!

George Perry's run has ended, I have followed the chase for the record but never thought of it from coming from anywhere other than California or Florida. Lake Dixon might get a bit of a break now:)
