I have started to clean my dads tanks for him. so i was cleaning the other day...and in the substrate were these worms...which i quickly looked up and thought might be bristleworms...there is no live rock in there...so our question was how did it get there? ive read that this can be postive as well as negative for the tank.. he has a trigger in there, 2 puffers, a parrot fish and a plaid fish...i cant remember the name.

Do u have live rock? If u do, they probably came from that,

There shouldn't be any bristleworms in the tank if he didn't have any live rock in the tank.
Are you sure he doesn't have live rock in there? Any rock at all?

where did the substrate come from? any coral in the tank that came mounted on rock? i'm surprised your fish didnt wipe the bristles out sooner.

ill verify the live rock definetly. the substrate is crushed coral i believe....but that substrate is the same for the last like 10 years. all ornaments in the tank are fake. let 100% check on the live rock..he was wondering if it came on the actual fish...is that a possibility?

I had the same problem and brought to my LFS and realized this happens when you overfeed and do not do proper cleaning of the gravel/sand or u waited to long to do a water change... R they really small worms but i min hairlike size and when u move the gravel i bet alot of them come out... If this right they are harmless to ur fish but IMO no worms in the tank the better i feel about the tank
