Hey, I was wondering if anyone has experienced the following with their aro and if so if they would be willing to shed some light. Recently, my aro has not been eating like normal. He usually eats a ton, and has barely eaten all week. He eats sometimes, but not aggressively, and not as much as normal. I know these fish often dont eat, and I wouldnt be so worried if he wasnt acting funny also. Every now and then, he curls in a U shape, or in an S shape. It looks very rigid and unnatural, and is definetly not his normal behavior. Its sometimes right after he eats something, he kind of settled towards the bottom, and slowly curly until he has contorted his body into a stiff U or sometimes S-looking shape, and just sits there for a couple minutes. It happens often, but I wouldnt say frequently. Any ideas?

I had a similar issue with my Aro and JLNguyen gave me some simple and helpful advice. Crank up the heater....... it worked. My arowana would not eat and just laid at the bottom of the tank w/ very little activity, near the heater coincidentally. I turned up the heater to 82 degrees and in a matter of a day he was eating like he had before! What is your heater setting at?

Well, if anyone (meaning House_64 I guess) is wondering, my aro is back to normal, dont know what was bothering him but he snapped out of it, and hes swimming around and eating like normal.

so i dont start another thread, and since this thread is over

my aro just went in his new 180 gal, and he has been inthere for a week and a half, and i havent seen him eat once, i tried dead food, pellets, worms (his fav), live goldys, gudgens, grayfish, and he hasnt touched any of them i dont think, he's always getting scared and running into the glass and the gravel and kicking up gravel, seems like he wants to get away from me,

is this just new tank syndrome? will he be normal again?

What are the parameters in the new tank? As long as the water is clean (you know what I mean) I wouldnt worry at this point. Aro's sometimes dont eat for a very long time, and him being scared could definetly be due to the move into a new tannk. How big is your aro btw? Is it a silver?

Yea, I would give him more time. Sometimes it takes a couple weeks for a fish to get acclimated to his new home. And Aro's often dont eat for long periods and come out of it alright. I wouldnt worry as long as there are no other symptoms.
