Ive had my wolf for about 2 months now and im getting worried about him. He is in a 75 with my tiger oscar and they seem to get along, they both stay on there own sides of the tank and avoid each other. But in the last few weeks ive noticed that my wolf hasnt been eating the tillapia that i put in. He use to eat it as soon as he saw it or as soon as it hit the bottom but now even when its in his cave he just wont eat it. The tiger oscar, and my other fish love the tillapia still but he just wont eat it. So should i be worried that my wolf fish isnt eating? (he tends to eat a small piece every few days).

Also my wolf has been jumping against the top of the tank late at night when the lights off, he still is small for my 75 so i dont think hes cramped and i always do my weekly water changes and tank cleaning so im just wondering what may be wrong with him....:(

My tiger oscar seems as healthy as can be and the wolf isnt thin or anything but he does have some cuts on his face from hitting the glass top on the tank.

My red wolf has been displaying almost the exact same behavior except he is in the tank alone.

someone told me they had the same problem one time too with their wolf, they said it kept hitting the top of the tank.

they are jumpers, all wolves generally are as most are air breathers. Just make sure there is enough room between the lid and the water level and it shouldn't hit and make sure you do have a tight/heavy lid.

In regards to food, much like other fish they occasionally go on hunger strike. Keep feeding but if he isn't taking the food, don't throw it all in- you have the added benefit of a greedy cichlid to clear up but don't leave it in the bottom too long but also consider that the wolf is nocturnal and could simply be feeding when you turn the lights out.

The other thing to keep in mind is your water parameters; if you have high Ammonia/nitrite/nitrate many fish will stop eating.

Finally, keep an eye on the Oscar/wolf combo. A well fed wolf is likley to be docile but if it becomes hungry, they can become quiet ravenous. A miss-timed gulp from your oscar vs the wolf attempting to snatch the same piece of food could see some fairly significant damage on your Oscar. My experience with my Gold wolf co-hab sees everything fine for 99% of the time except for at feeding- this is where the damage generally occurs.

Post your parameters up as a starting point to give us a better idea of conditions.

I seperated my oscar and wolf. They both have there own 20 gal so I can see if the wolf is eating and its not just the oscar

I'm currently cycling for a mala that's coming in March 4th, and I don't have proper glass canopy yet (marineland brand, very light with a part missing)
so I think I'm going to have to lower the water until I can buy them.

I also am heavily considering putting in an air pump.

I'm excited because I got to 'choose a colour' of my choice of mala from a book, and I got the white/metallic looking one. Hopefully it looks like the one on youtube vs. Jaguar cichlid.

Hope your fish is well.

Mine jumped out of the tank last night at 2 in the morning so make sure you have something heavy on the lid. I have a glass top and he was strong enough to hit the lid and open it for just enough time to land on the floor.

Is the wolf a gonner or did you hear the bump and rescue it?!
