i have this two 5incher Oscars, they're main diet is market fish (small fish about 2.5 incher fishes i dont know the name). is it ok for them if i offer it everyday as staple food?, i used to offer them fish pellets but they just chew it then spit.

now when you say spit it out, do you mean back out the mouth or out the gills? Oscars are dirty eaters in general. My pair like hikari floaters as their staple and once in a while i'll give them feeders. but the feeders end up living in the tank with them for about 2 weeks before they either die, get sucked up in the filter, or they finally get eaten. but if you want the colors to show i would, IMO and experience, get them on pellets or sticks as a staple. but keep the variety diet (market shrimp, krill, pellets, sticks, feeders, etc).

often times they do it on the mouth and sometimes on the gills. the pellets end up on the gravel, but when i offer them the market fish they just go frenzy and wont spit at all. ill try to offer sticks as mentioned above and hope for the best;)

yes and let your oscars get a little hungary.. and if they eat a pellet wait to give them more the next day..little at a time.. and they will be jumping at those pellets..

I'd keep a variety of food in their diet.

Agree...

Pellets are going to be a lot better for them then the fish as they have added vitamins & nutrients.

Agree...

Oscars will eat anything...I have kept Oscars that were endless pits....There were days in which the fish will not touch a peice of food...They are like that, no worry....Maintain a varied diet consisting of small shrimp, krill, chopped Tilapia....The staple(everyday) feed should be a pellet feed such as Hikari Bio-Gold(there is a picture of an Oscar on the cover).............:headbang2
