I have several Cichlid's including

JD's
Salvini
Convicts
Firemouth
Oscar

JD: Male is 5" with fins but only about 1" high and fairly lean and has been that size for a good 3 months now, great colours but just seems to have stopped growing, is a very fussy eater and won't accept pellet at all only anything worm... Female is the same age but only 3" and eats eveything.

The Salvini is a female, outstanding colours and I got her at the size she is now which is about 6 months ago and has stayed at around 4 inch including fins.

Convicts: To be honest are probably about right but again on the small size. Eats everything.

Firemouth: Not sure on sex but only about 3" inc fins and has been that way for 5 months. Eats everything fine.

Oscar: Only got him about 2 months ago at 4"'ish and I'm sure he has grown an inch around already, eats everything so seems to be fine but saying that all the fish seemed to grow ok at first then just slowed right up and havn't got any where near the correct sizes.

I feed:

King British Cichlid Flakes
Hikari Gold Pellet
Hikari Staple Pellets
Bloodworm
Mealworm
Lettuce
Some other frozen and live treats from time to time.

Water Parameters are:

Amonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 25-30 Comes out the tap between 18-25
PH = 7.5 How it comes out the tap
DH= 15.5 How it comes out the tap

and always the same results every time I test.

63g Tank
20% Water changes per week
Prime water conditioner
Fluval 405 Filtration
Lots of airation
Monthly Filter Clean and 50% Water Change

Is there something that could be wrong or is it poor quality stock that the LFS's have around here, inbreds? bad genes? or just bad luck getting the runts? I'm considering trying some Rapps stock to see if they grow to prove it's bad stock around here and to ensure I get the fish to size they should be.

I'd love to hear some feedback.

Cheers

Everything looks good IMO. Sometimes fish just don't grow as fast as you might like. I bet if you keep up the water changes and feedings your oscar will grow big fast, the others are slower growing from my experience.

your female sal looks real good my female sal is2 years old and only 5.5 inch, as for your dempsey iwould feed frozen krill, night crawlers and i also feed hikari carnivore pellets as these sink my dempseys wount eat any thing that floats i also be leave that these speices are slower growers compare to oscars or devils and many otheres

the fish look very colorful and healthy, just give it time and lots of water changes and it should grow fine!

they all look healthy to me-youre diet seems good and like you said they are all eating like pigs.. just keep up with the waterchanges..

My JD is@3 yrs. old . He has been by himself for the last 2.5yrs. now and I really think he prefers it that way(he does not tolerate company at all) He will eat anything I put in his home . He has bit my finger several times , only because I will be to close to surface of water before I let go of his food.At this writing he is 7 1/4 inches long from tip to tip.I hope he gets to at least 8 inches before he stops growing. I really think yours would grow better if he had a home alone with his " mate " But if He has to live with the others , given time they Will get larger if they feed well. This is just my opinion and I'm sure they're other's who can give you some good advise.Good luck and HAPPY FISH-KEEPING!!!
