I have had a pleco for about 4 months, and he has been a strange little boy.
Lately, I noticed he is giving off very, very long poops. I have never seen him do this before. Some are as long as 4 feet, and I am not sure if this is normal. He is a common pleco, and is about 5 inches long.

Is this because he is eating more? I noticed this after moving him into a new 29 gallon tank. He was in a 20 gallon, but I moved everyone into a 29 recently.

I feed the tank flakes and put in algae and sinking wafers. I have been making sure at least 1/2 a wafer goes into his little vase that he loves. He is pretty active.

Come on....4 feet? Really? Sorry, gotta call BS on this one....No way a 5 inch pleco is going to produce feces that are 9 times the length of its body. Please tell you meant to type 4 inches. And how would you know anyway? He was only in a 2 foot tank and then you moved him to a 30 inch tank. Did you take it out and measure it?

If the crap is only 4 inches, don't worry about it. That happens....

I am serious. It was very long and was on the bottom of the tank and he was still pooping. I had to use a net to get it all up. I looked in later and found him still pooping. I will have to measure him and see how long he is. I have an oriental vase in the tank with him and he fits almost the length of the vase.

A 4 foot turd seems a little odd.

unless he is unable to move i can not in any way fathom how this would be possiable..

It could happen. I've had feces that exceeded 9 feet before from prior commons, however they were all over 18" long.

Well my 4" common plec has layed a poo that was over 18" long, more than the depth of the tank anyway. So it's not unheard of.

Try giving him a bit of fresh vege in his diet.

But as long as they are pooping they are generally OK. If they stop pooping, then you worry.
