I was at the BIGGEST lfs in my area the other day and decided to pick up some feeders as a treat for my fish who rarely ever get them. The guy I asked goes in a back room and then comes back with a bag full of blue water and goldfish. I asked him why the water was blue and he said that it stops the goldfish from getting diseases etc so they cant give anything to my fish...

Could this be true? Or just a marketing scheme?

sounds to me likethey just keep the fish in the packing water which has that meth...blue in it. it's a med the is a disease preventative. Personally I would like to see there feeder tank before I bought any. I won't buy feeders unless I can see them first. You don't know how many if any are dead in the tank. if any look to have ick or any other visible disease. So in short I do not belive there is such a thing as disease free feeders. (yes some feeders will come disease free but wth no guarentee.) And there is no better way to make sure the feeders are disease free then a QT tank.

Even QT won't guarantee that your feeders are free of mycobacterium (fish TB) -- unless you QT them for several years. The best way to make sure feeders are disease-free is to breed them yourself.

Oh yeah, it is definitely a marketing scheme, or worse. The water may have been blue because they picked out fish from a treatment tank and gave them to you. NEVER buy the fish in the blue water at a pet store.

meth blue won't do much for most internal parasites either, so I wouldn't buy those feeders

Nothing is 100% effective, there is always chance of obtaining a disease or virus. If you notice, many anti-bacterial sprays will claim that they kill 99.9% of germs, never 100% due to uncertainty. Ask yourself, have we really discovered all of the parasites and diseases that exist today?

if ever you decide on buying it, quarantine it first before feeding it.. maybe atleast a week.. constantly check the fish for any spots that might be an indication of disease.. but with the internal ones, you would just have to leave it to luck.. lol
