So I have recently been battling a massive green suspended algae problem as u can see below. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me out with this stuff, its getting very annoying, and it seems water changes and patience is doing very little. I recently added 3 live plant bunches to try and steal nutrients away from the Algae, I have no light on the tank ATM, and over feeding, and direct sunlight is not the problem. I have read that the tap water I use could be filled with nutrients that the algae thrive on, which might seem to be plausible as every water change i do, it gets worse. PLEASE PLEASE please send suggestions. Thanks

The only alternnatives I have heard are adding live plants (which i just did today 10/26, or getting a UV filtration attachment.

Thanks for the help,

Get something called algone IT WORKS WONDERS.
leave tank lights off for now and if you have the cash, add an in tank UV sterilizer.

i got one pouch of algone from my friend, it works just very slowly.

btw the plants cant steal nutrients with no light lol.

but i dont consider the plants to be a effective treatment atleast not in small quantities

If there is not excessive sun light on the tank and your feeding properly and also carrying out proper water changes and watching nitrates yet it wont go away...
Id say get an all in one cheap UV from pet smart the 9 watt version on a tank 55 or less the 24 watt for larger tanks they are called "the green killing machine"

If you can spend a little more and dont mind the plumbing the coral life twists work wonders. Ive never had algae blooms but my water has never been clearer since I started using the Turbo twists on almost all of my tanks.

LOL... looking at your pictures.. see that blue rimmed white looking air filter resembling thing? ( middle picture bottom left hand corner) ... Thats called a micron filter... slap that bad-boy in your magnum for 24 hours... and do a solid WC before and after since you'll need to remove the carbon to use it, unless your running multiple filters on your tank. It filters fine particles out of your water, should do the trick.

That is not algae, it is a bacterial bloom. It should resolve itself automatically in time.
