Having 10 tanks and decades of experience, I used to use the ol' Marineland Magnum 350's but the magnets go bad, making them rattle and they haven't been available for years. Some months ago I bought (online) a new Marineland Magniflow 220 to replace another aging 350. It sat in the unopened box 'till yesterday. Upon setting it up I discovered it has a major leak from the powerhead/canister gasket (flood, puddle, towels, etc.) Upon assembly you can tell the gasket isn't thick enough, nothing compresses to make a tight seal as one would assume. I called customer assistance to see if they have upgraded the gasket, answer no. I then asked if replacement gaskets were available from Marineland (thinking I could use 2) uh, no. Are they to be found elsewhere like Amazon, eBay etc. no again. The Marineland rep. suggested to go and buy some plumbers silicone and make my own gasket, Really?? Since I bought the thing online (Ken's Fish, not Marineland) the shipping cost to return it would likely be almost the original $98 I paid for it, oh well... Bottom line-the M M 220 is Rubbish, don't buy! The good news is that I had to run to Petsmart to get another filter as I'm receiving some new fish for that 50G tank, arriving tomorrow. This will now be my third Topfin CF 60 canister filter, (around $150) I like 'em fine, easy to work with and set up, very quiet and no problems thus far. I'm not a fan of their in-tank long intake tube and their spray bar set up for the return so I modified and used the old 350 in-tank arrangement that I prefer. Now ready for the new fishes!
