I think I live in the worst city for fish anywhere. I have 3 lfs, only 1 of which carries any cichlid selection. I've had problems even trying to find someone to order the fish that I would like. The area is full of Petsmart, Petco, Walmart and Pet Supplies Plus, but very little selection for monster fish. Just gets aggravating to try to find something besides oscars, jack dempseys, common types of cichlid. On the other hand, if you like saltwater there are several lfs that specialize in saltwater fish. Most of the better lfs have gone belly up, couldn't compete with chain stores. I can order from other internet sources, I guess, but the cost of shipping kind of kills that idea. The local fish club here has no activities at all, either. No trades or auctions of what other members raise. I know that there are fishkeepers here, I got my big jag/dovii from a local store, who got it as a tradein from someone else local. How could I get in touch with other fishkeepers in my area? I've tried to locate other MFK people from tn, but not had much luck. Who is good for ordering from? Preferably with a reasonable shipping cost and a good recommendation from members here? If I have to, I will just have to start ordering from internet, or maybe I just need to move to a different city... I do like it here, just not good for fish.

Haha wow stop complaining, I don't even have an LFS in my city

Is there nothing in driving distance? The closest one to me is 30 minutes and their cichlid selection is limited. I have to drive an additional 30 on top of that some times for other fish.

i live in an area of close to 200,000. we have one lfs thatis usually out of everything, petsmat and petco. couple times a year i drive 260 one way to look at somthing interesting.

Hello; Could be worse. I have to drive 50+ miles to get to Knoxville TN as the fish stores in your post are the closest to my home.

Stop. Keeping. Cichlids. Problem solved

Doesn't sound like you have it that bad. Plenty of stores so supplies are always nearbye and you have chains keeping the LFS prices honest

The Aquarium on Papermill is the only one that really has any choice in cichlids. Fins n Skins closed a few months ago. I guess it could be worse, at least there is one store left. Just want to find a better selection of fish. I was venting because of a bad experience with one of 3 remaining stores. They supposedly ordered what I was looking for, but keep giving me the run around when the shipment is supposed to be in. I don't think they even ordered my catfish. Their main priority is saltwater, not fresh. Their loss, I would have probably used them for all the fish I'm trying to find.
