Worst LFS I have been to...

I live near the city part of Sydney, Australia...and all the LFS around these areas are nicely maintained... animal cruelty starts occurring around the more less commercial areas...so for the first time, I travelled to this LFS which is around 45 minutes away from my house (I was going to pick up my female flowerhorn from a dude in the area anyway, so why not drop by yeah?)


Blah!

The LFS smelt like piss...there was BLOCKED SUCTION noises everywhere, from their filters being jammed, due to no maintenance... the filters were internal filters,and were see through... 5 inch of waste in each filter...(OLD WASTE!) ... gold fish tanks had... 200 fish per 2ft of tank... I counted around 80 as fast as I could...

Repeat.. :200 GOLDFISH PER 2FT OF TANK!!

Then I came across to the CICHLID SECTION...yes....oscars... 5 Oscars... around 25cm mark..one was around 30cm for sure.... 5 oscars...and one 25 cm jaguar cichlid in a 3ft tank...

I won't even get to the flowerhorn part.... was the worst LFS I have EVER come across...these people should be checked out by authorities.. for HYGIENE issues, FORGET fish keeping..for bloody hygiene issues, thats HOW DIRTY this place was!

BEST FACT? You get to walk in there, pick up a net and bag your own fish...self service..who cares whats on your hands or what you have been touching..

After all this, the lady gets mad cause I refsed to buy bloodworms from her after all this.... I would not take food from this shop, let alone fish..if it was given for free...
 
Wow. Sounds horrible! Many lfs near me are like this. I actually prefer to bag my own fish. Lol because that way you can choose which ones. But, that's horrible conditions!

Im curious now, which one is it?

I went to one near Cabramatta(near a train station) that was pretty bad too. About 20 ghost knives in a tank, 15-20 oscars in a tank. Possibly 100's of gold suckers in a tank. Then you look up, and theres even bigger oscars squashed into the smaller tanks. Same with nearly every single tank, no matter what it housed, bristlenose, clown loaches(poor loaches!), oscars, knives, cichlids, just plain horrible.
I was there because of a lead for some rarer fish... no such luck.

you probably went to monaco aquariums...since you mentioned gold suckers...the one im taking about is across the road from that one...canely vale station...near cabramatta....i felt so bad man... these are fish i would love to keep if i had tank space...and people who should be selling ...should also reflect the right way to keep fish..

yeah sure its a business..but 5 25cm+ oscars in a 3 ft?!?

Damn! Yea, I went to both of those stores on my trip. Never going back.

Is there an authority that can be called about it? Im sure there is, but dont know what it was. I know I wanted to call them, whoever they are, as soon as I left the store.

rspca wont deal with fish i think...but fair trade Australia might...due to horrific store conditions...which leads to consumers buying unhealthy fish.

I would go in there and not buy anything but make loud negative comments so others can hear. I did this in one of my lfs and the owner threatened to call police, At least it brought attention to his dump of a shop.
