So finally bought everything I need to set up my 125 gallon tank. But I found out that I will be moving in June. Was wondering if it would be worth it to set the tank up now get it cycling? Would this help the filter out(fx5) make it easier to get the tank up an running once I do move? Or will I have to start form scratch an cycle the tank again once I move. An feed back will help thanks

If u keep the filter (mainly media and sponges) soaked in tankwater for the trip ull be good. I used big tupperware and it worked great!

Alow a few days to run after set up, check the water params and if ur 0 nitrite, little nitrate and no ammonia ur good. Ive done it before works great!

Possibly even buy more biological media to ensure a decent bio load and let seed for now!

You shouldn't really lose much beneficial bacteria (BB) in that short of a move inside your filter(s). Just do as recommended. The one thing I would add is once you move and re-setup the tank to not put too heavy a bioload in it. I don't know what you plant to stock, but maybe don't add the whole stock yet so you don't overload your BB just in case you do end up losing some. It is a lot easier to keep up with water changes when the tank is recycling (to keep ammonia and nitrites down) when there isn't a heavy stock - this is probably obvious, but just wanted to add. Anyway, you really shouldn't have any problems.

Man i know how hard it is to have patient but I started in November to buy for my 120 and wife would not let me set it up until Chrstmas for the kids. Look at it this way you have to move. Then you have to hurry up set up tank. Then you have to get fish in. I hope you have some great family because you are going to have to spend the time setting up your tank while you can be moving. Instead of spending the time dealing with the fish you can be getting your house in order, not pissing off the spouse and then latter when you can be rearanging dishes you can be off buying fish.. Best of luck to ya though

Wareagle12, you do bring up a good point. It is definitely worth considering others in this situation because it will be important to get the tank back up and running as soon as possible. My wife really likes my/our 125g african cichlid tank and would be ok with getting that set up quickly first - probably not with everything where it will go exactly, but at least running. She would just expect that once it is set up I work hard getting us moved in and not continue fiddling with the tank. But that is my wife, and others could be in a different situation.
