Would 3" koi be too small to introduce to a pond?

Will it b eaten by 18" koi or by birds? Sorry I am a pond newbie

I don't think 3" koi can fit in the mouth of 18" koi, and what kind of bird ! If you concern about it, give the small koi a few week beef up, it would be 5-6" by 4 week (maybe).

It's an outdoor pond in the desert. I was just afraid crows might help thmselves.

As long as the pond is a decent depth, the fish will be fine.

It's not going to get eaten, and you would have to keep it inside for quite some time if you wanted it to reach 6" before releasing.
