I have a chance to get a 13" tig cat for $450...good price? This is in Canadian and I think the cat is even eating pellets and prawn. Would it eat some 4" NTT dats? I think it might which is why I'm wondering. If not I'll have to try my luck at a 6" smaller guy.....ALSO if the 13" guy is to big will the 6" one be okay?........not for eating the dats but I heard that tigs under 10" can be hard to keep? True or not?.....discuss:popcorn:I would have to train the little one to eat.

:goldfish::goldfish::goldfish:well from what i have lived off of is if the fish is even close to to fitting in the siad fish mouth try at ur own risk lol

I would assume that's a decent price on that size of a Tig, I purchased a 7" Tigrinus at a LFS for 300.00 cad. The Tig was retailed at 350.00 at the time but I bargained down to 300.00. I've seen some LFS sell 8" tigs for 1100+...Also it doesn't grow fast like the normal TSN or the RTC. I have to hand feed my Tig pieces of frozen shrimp for it to get the proper amount of food. The Tig has grown about 1.5 inches since I purchased him 2 months ago and he's about 8.5" now. When I first got the Tig at 7" my RTC was 5" at the time, now the RTC is 9" and he's fed only twice a week where I feed my Tig every 2nd day.

Thanks for the info. What do you think about the size eating smaller fish?

He'll eat anything that can fit in it's mouth, also they hunt at night so u wouldn't know til morning. I would assume a 13 inch Tig should be able to fit 3-4 inch fish in it's mouth. I feed large 2.5 inch feeders to mine.

I'd get the 13 one.. much better chance of survival and if you're putting that kind of money in a fish you will probably want it to survive? =)

and for the dats, they are pretty much known to get along with bigger fish, they have some nasty spikes and are very fast, I've kept 5" dats with 24" aro, snakehead, 20" tsn.. the cats are pretty slender and I don't think he will pester your dats. but if you're unsure just try it and keep a watchful eye.

my rule of thumb with large hunting fish, is that if a smaller fish is less then half the leingth, it may not be eaten, but it will be harrased. thats how it was with my clarias cat.

yes, but a clarias is not just predatory, it is also aggressive.. that is a big difference!
