i have a new 29g i just finished cycling. as of now it has san, some rocks, some clown loaches, and id shark, and a leporinus. its pretty much a grow out tank for my 120. would a CK be ok in there with those other fish? i used to have a Ck in my 55 with another leporinus and the leporinus torn it up but it was bigger than the ck. my leprinus now is about 4 in and the ck i wanna get is 4 in also. will they be ok together? i will have pics of the new set up tonight=]

I honestly have no clue about a ck with a leporinus.

Surely the 4 inch ck would do ok in the 29 for a bit. I'm just not sure how he would get along with the lep.

This story seems so familiar....... might you be posting again with a different identity???

there are TONS of ppl on MFK so im sure there are lots of fimiliar stories.do u have any advice for me?

It seems that experience has shown you this is not a good mix. Leporinus are fin-nippers, even of fish that are their own size or larger. Knife fish have long fins. I would say definitely not.

Sorry, I know there are a lot of people on MFK, but there are not many with an Apple avatar from Illinois that keep leporinus and knife fish together, except for one who has already been banned twice. So, it must be a huge coincidence, again, my apologies.

Not in a 29G. I had to give my CK up, because it outgrew my 120g, in 7 months

Let's assume that the 29 gal isn't really the issue here (although I do agree with you), because he specifically said the 29 is a grow-out for a 120 which he already has. I don't always understand that concept, but I accept it since I don't know what else might already be in the 120.

The issue is the shady, fin-nipping leporinus. It's an attractive and interesting fish, but it should not be in with slower-moving or long-finned fish, even if they are larger. You have already seen what it will do to a knife. I wouldn't put them together.

I wouldn't try it unless it was a big tank. Even if you provide a lot of hiding spaces, I'm not sure if it would prevent the Leporinus from nipping it once it shows itself. I would move the Leporinus to the big tank first and let the CK stay in the 29g on it's own and power feed it. They grow pretty quickly so it should be able to outgrow the Leporinus in no time.
