Hi,

I got a 1 gallon aqueon tank with one betta. I was wondering if it'd be alright if I add a snail to the tank? Not a pond snail, something bigger, but not too big. I am open to your suggestions. Thank you

They have those gold mystery snails at Petsmart. I personally dislike the gold ones(the color is bleh to me) but they have purple ones or "blue" ones which are a light blue. I really like them, they move alot at work and love to eat cucumbers and zuchinni.

They grow 2 inches and poop a lot. A gallon tank is not an option for them and bettas tend to bite off their eyes and antennaes. If you can culture green algae (grown on rocks), the perhaps a lone nerite snail will be best. Trouble is they equally poop a lot even if size is not an issue. A 5g though will be fine for both a betta and a snail.

i put in a black mystery snail with my moms betta and the betta sucked him out of the shell and ate him. maybe a bigger one? anything smaller than 3/4 the size of the fish can be eaten. in my experience at least

male bettas are usually kept by themselves and will usually kill anything else in with it. they really are best to be kept alone, sorry.

The only other fish I would reccomend puting with a male betta is a female betta. BUT, before you put the two of them together do some extensive reading on betta's and their characteristics with other bettas. This step is very important. If you do not know what you're doing with them, should you put them together, you could end up with a seriously injured if not dead female betta. So do your homework and read up them before you get your male betta, a female friend.

Good Luck.
