Yeah should be fine so long as you keep him fed on veggies. I had a gold nugget pleco that use to suck the life out of some of my fish so had to trade him in. Current common pleco is fine with my silver dollars and loves to have fights with my blue lobster for territory.
Contrary to some advice slime sucking is not in a plecos nature at all. like any animal it will do what it can to get the nutriants its body is screaming out for.
There are instances where a bichir has started to suck the slime coat off of bichirs in the same tank. whilst a lot of bichir enthusiasts will swear never to put a pleco in with them there are others that have had bichirs and plecos together for some years without issue.
its a judgement call, but make sure you have some place to put the bichir should it begin sucking.
a lot of the problem seems to be people not feeding their plecos properly. plecos need protien, some more so. they need meaty foods as well as green such as algae wafer, algae and zuchinni/pumpkin/etc. from what ive read its better to get a pleco that leans more to the vegetarian diet.
bloodworm is usually a good bet too and i would imagine sinking carnivore pellets would be ok. however, i would read this sticky from the pleco section http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42856 it should help you make an informed decision. I have always fed plecos algae wafers, cucumber, bloodwrom and whatever pellets that my other fish eat.
if you have more questions on what to feed your specific type of pleco then ask in the pleco section as its always better to ask than end up with a bad situation.
