I have a 25 gallon tank that has regular gravel from petsmart that is just rocks. I was wondering how much of a difference i would see in my plants and aquarium as a whole if i switched out this gravel for the eco-complete. I used this substrate calculator (http://www.plantedtank.net/substratecalculator.html), and it said I need 40 lbs to cover my 25 gallon with 2 inches of substrate. Is this a good calculator? And is 2 inches a very good amount of substrate for plants?

crap...sorry moderators i just realized that this is probly plant related, you can move it if you want to

I use eco-complete in my tanks and I have seen great results as compared to regular gravel, it also depends on the type of plants i.e., some plants absorb more through there leaves and mostly use there roots for anchoring, so in this case there would be less of a benefit.

As far as the depth I'm not sure what the general rule is, I put 60lbs in my 30 gallon and have about 3".

Thanks for the reply :D
I have some anubias coffefolia, water sprite, amazon swords, and other low light plants like anarchis

Works better than any 'non plant specific' substrate that I have. Takes awhile to get clear water. Once the smaller pieces settle to the bottom and the fish seed it (:D), you can get away with keeping many types of plants without added Co2 as long as they get the right lighting. My swords are doing fine this way.

i had a planted 40 gallon tank a while back and used eco complete. it helped out a lot. it releases nutrients into the water which all sorts of plants can absorb. be sure to use the proper lighting and CO2. the excess nutrients will cause algae to bloom and cover everythin in your tank without proper lighting and CO2. when i transfered my plants to a tank without the eco complete, they barely grew and most just died.
